I believe there’s aways hope when all seems lost, and I believe in Santa Clause.
I believe in Santa Clause. I’ll tell you why I do. I believe that dreams and plans and wishes can come true. I believe in miracles. I believe in magic too. I believe in Santa Clause, and I believe in you.
-Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers
I’m dancing around the house to a little Dolly and Kenny today, cutting up some candy cane fudge for tonight. I’ve always loved country music- the cheesier the better, and I can’t help but apply inspirational song lyrics to the work we are doing with homeless cats. A few things that keep me going:
I believe that there is someone out there for every cat, and all we have to do is find him or her (easy, right?).
I believe that what we do matters- not just to the cats we save, but to the people whose lives they enrich.
I believe in the good in people- that most people are kind and care about more than just themselves. I’ve met too many wonderful people this year not to- foster volunteers, adopters, fellow rescuers and all the people who took the time to feed a stray cat and send me an email.
I believe that in my lifetime, through TNR programs, improved sheltering models and lots of hard work, every homeless pet will be guaranteed a good home.
That last one may require more details! We will talk more about goals and strategies for the coming year in a New Year’s post. For now, Happy Holidays and stay warm!
The impending storm would not keep Beatrice from making it to her new home this weekend! All bundled up with a heating pad in her carrier, she arrived yesterday before the snow started falling. She came out of her carrier ready to play, and showed absolutely no interest in hiding. She wanted to sniff every inch of her new house, and a few times she even focused long enough to play with some of her new toys.
Beatrice’s new person, Charlotte (who just turned 7- Happy Birthday Charlotte!) has chosen to name her Alex, after her favorite character on The Wizards of Waverly Place. I think the name suits our mischievous little girl!
Congratulations, Alex! You get to be snowed in today with your new family!
Update: Turns out little smarty pants knows her name! So, she will be Beatrice Alex from now on. She is already sleeping in Charlotte’s bed!
EVENT UPDATE: It was indeed a Meowy Christmas Eve! Through thirty unique donations George the Duck and his friends helps us raise $745, which is 149% of goal!
Furriends, anipals and their humans, some strangers in “real life” but friends on Twitter and Chatzy, will rally to celebrate Christmas Eve, track Santa on Norad and support Black Cat Rescue together for the holidays.
Mark your calendar for December 24th from 2PM to 2AM EST! If you can, stop by for a little bit or stay the whole time. Search for hashtag #catmaseve to follow everyone’s posts.
We just received word that 808,147 pets have been adopted to date! We’re definitely on our way to reaching our 1.5MM goal by January 4th!
Here at BCR, we are holding onto some adoption news until tomorrow. Are you intrigued? My one tiny superstition is to never announce adoptions until the kitty is physically in the home. Stay tuned…
Toward the end of October, Black Cat Rescue posted a message to our supporters seeking a kind, patient foster volunteer with socializing experience to work with a particularly shy cat name Lola. Well, our plea was answered, and now Lola is making GREAT progress each day in a WONDERFUL and patient foster home – learning to trust and enjoy affection.
It’s clear that Lola is a very loyal and loving girl who will be a devoted companion in her new forever home! She would do best in a quiet home with someone who will be patient and understanding while she gets acclimated.
Hopefully, Lola will be entertaining some potential adopters early in the new year! And, if she decided to hide, at least we have video evidence of how friendly she can be once she gets comfortable!
Fairway is now Romeo! Such a perfect name for our little lover boy! He and his new brother Saki have already become best friends. It’s amazing to see such fast progress (under two weeks!!) with two adult cats. This little charmer can win anybody over!
We all love an underdog story, and black cats are the true underdogs of the cat rescue world! We know that we aren’t going to rack up the thousands of votes necessary to win this contest by tomorrow, but wouldn’t it be wonderful to show the world that black cat adoption matters by having Black Cat Rescue make it into the top 100? Help us send the message that black cats deserve better by voting today!
Meet Daphne! She was very scared and hard to trap. Apparently, she didn’t know how much fun foster care would be. Now she is enjoying indoor living and lots of attention. She doesn’t even mind excitable dogs! Daphne is now waiting for the right person to see beyond her tipped ear and give her the loving, forever home she deserves!
Santa Paws won our holiday logo poll with 66% of the votes. Thank you to everyone who voted! We also got some great suggestions of ideas for next year!
