There are so many exciting programs going on this month to help homeless animals. I am really hoping that we can see some tangible adoption results!
Iams Home 4 The Holidays (IH4TH) aims to place 1.5 million pets into loving homes by January 4th, 2010. With nearly 8 million homeless animals in the U.S. today, and almost half scheduled to be euthanized this year alone, our help is needed now more than ever.
We’ve detailed some of the reasons why adopting a pet during the Holiday Season can be stressful (for people and pets!), but this time of year can also be a wonderful time to harness good will and holiday spirit for animals in need.
I adopted Cheeto in the middle of December, and it was so great to have him with us for Christmas. It really depends on the pet’s personality. In Cheeto’s case, he was (and still is) an incredibly social, confident kitty who had no trouble jumping into the festivities! It meant so much to have him spend the Holidays and start the New Year with his family.
So far, 621,034 pets have been adopted since 10/01! We’re definitely on our way to reaching our 1.5MM goal by January 4th!
