Janet is a sweet 4 year old cat who thought she was living the good life until she was surrendered to a large shelter by her owners who decided to get a dog instead. Janet was terrified in the cage at the at shelter, and the shelter staff knew she would not be able to attract an adopter.

The staff reached out to BCR to see if we could place her in our foster network. Even though we were bursting at the seams, we found a space for Janet.

BCR Foster Volunteer Pat is a seasoned kitty caretaker, with 5 cats of her own. She has a special patience and understanding with cats that allowed Janet to go at her own pace and recover from her ordeal. Even though our foster home Pat has a lot of cats of her own, she has a large area where Janet could be isolated and get some much deserved peace and quiet!

Janet was finally able to get some well-needed rest in Pat's quiet home.

At first, Janet was very scared and skittish in the foster home. With some time and TLC, she warmed up to Pat and her young grandson. After two months in foster care, Janet came out of her shell and became her sweet, affectionate self! Janet spent her days look out the window, snuggling up with Pat in the bed at night, and keeping her gorgeous black coat in pristine condition. We knew that Janet was a very sweet cat who needed a peaceful environment and someone to bond with in her forever home.

Columbine contacted BCR after losing her 18 year-old Maine Coon to kidney problems. She specifically asked about Janet, looking for a calm, friendly cat. Columbine went through quite a bit to get out to Winthrop for the visit– but she pretty much had her heart set on Janet. Despite Janet’s shy history, she was quite the social butterfly during the adoption visit! Janet wooed Columbine with her feline wiles and the two were smitten with each other! Columbine thinks she’ll probably nickname Janet “Jenny” because she looks like Jenny Linsky, a black cat from the Cat Club picture books by Esther Averill.

Congratulations to Janet and Columbine! We wish you all the best for the future.
