Black Cat Rescue often receives black cats who may be considered for euthanasia at traditional high-volume animal shelters in our community. As a foster-only, No Kill organization, transferring to Black Cat Rescue has spaces that can be less stressful and more appropriate for some of the more timid or special needs cats.

Storm went to his foster home and settled in fairly quickly. After a few days in hiding, he started to open up to his foster family, Jess and Austin. The first thing they noticed (aside from his gorgeous long coat and soulful eyes) was that when Storm isn’t hiding or napping, he’s actually rather fierce! His playing was more like rough-housing and he became pretty agitated when he was startled. It was clear some socializing and rule-setting was necessary.

Storm arrived in his foster home and we were instantly struck by his fluffy coat and gorgeous eyes! The extra scruffy fur around his neck makes him look like a little black lion!

After the mandatory week of isolation, Jess and Austin began integrating Storm into their home with their resident cats. The younger resident, Ichiban, and Storm became fast friends, running and wrestling with each other, or just hanging out on a comfy chair! As a side benefit, Storm’s behavior improved! With a new friend, Storm had less energy for unwarranted hissy fits (literally!) and he felt more secure so he was less fearful.

After a few weeks, Storm had a potential adopter lined up, but when she visited with him it just wasn’t the right fit. When reflecting on the visit, Jess and Austin realized how sad they would be to see Storm go. She was settling in so well at their house with their pets, and her tragic story of losing her first owner broke Jess’ heart. After much discussion, Jess and Austin decided to adopt Storm!

We are so thrilled for Storm and his new family! We know he’ll be playing with Ichiban for years to come and he couldn’t go to two better people than our dedicated foster volunteers, Jess and Austin.

Happy Tails: Monkey

Black Cat Rescue is thrilled to announce that Monkey has been adopted!

Black Cat Rescue is pleased to announce Monkey’s adoption! Congratulations to Monkey!

Monkey is a petite 3 year old cat who came to Black Cat Rescue from a large animal shelter where she was too terrified to eat or use the litterbox. When it became clear Monkey would not settle in, the shelter reached out to Black Cat Rescue to move her into a foster home where she would be more comfortable. After a few days in hiding in her BCR foster home with Kristen and Andrew, Monkey started to come out of her shell.

This little lady loves to be on somebody’s lap! Shy at first, Monkey is a total cuddlebug. When she’s not warming the couch, she’s a playful explorer who was curious about everything in her foster home. This gentle lady also has quite the voice and would serenade Kristen while she moved about the house.

Michele contacted Black Cat Rescue to find a cat for herself and her family. After a few days, Michele let us know that Monkey had settled in just fine and was loving her new life! Michele’s daughter is “over the moon” in love with Monkey and they sleep together each night.

Monkey is still a bit skittish, but she spends most of her time hanging around the family during the day. “She is truly a special cat! We love her so much already. Thanks again to you and her foster folks for all of your help.”

Happy Tail: Steve has been adopted!

Today’s Happy Tail will be a little bit different because the adopter is a part of the Black Cat Rescue team. I am very excited to let you know that today’s Happy Tail adopter is yours truly – Lisa, the BCR social media guru and blogger!

Congratulations to Steve in his new forever home!

Congratulations to Steve on his new forever home!

Steve came to Black Cat Rescue after living 12.5 years with one family who were forced to give him up after they  moved. His former owners were very sad to see him go, but they knew he would be safe with Black Cat Rescue and find a new loving forever home.

Steve's adorable face caught my attention immediately! I've never met a cat named Steve before, but it fits him perfectly!

I lost my beloved cat in Fall of 2014 after she suddenly fell ill. She had been a dedicated companion to me and especially to my dog, Gus, who grew up learning cat-like habits from her and driving her bonkers for fun. It’s been clear he has been missing her feline company during the day while the humans are working. I had been keeping my home open for BCR foster cats, but a foster home with a high-energy dog is definitely harder to fill than a cat-only or no-pet foster home!

Steve is a total softie, but a well-timed picture of a yawn makes him look like he's roaring!

When Steve’s foster dad went away on a work trip, my home was still open for fostering and it seemed a perfect opportunity to get Gus some feline company for a while. Plus, I had been following Steve through updates from his foster dad– his goofy face and silly ways caught me! Jen, our fearless leader, knew Steve had lived happily alongside dogs in his former home and it seemed reasonable that he would fit in well. Steve was moved into my home while his foster dad went away.

Of course, after spending a few weeks with Steve, my family couldn’t give him up! He lives happily alongside the crazy dog and has found his own special places to cuddle up away from the wet nose when he needs a break. Steve is super affectionate and has even won over my husband– a definite “dog person.”

So congratulations to Steve! We are so lucky to have such a great new feline to love and we look forward to many happy years with him!
